About Us

Street Kid Support is a private charitable trust, as detailed by the Internal Revenue Service code 501 ( c ) (3). The sole Trustee is Robert R. Harvey.

About me:

My name is Robert Harvey. I am an electronic engineer working in the field of sound and music recording electronics.

I became interested in the cause of rescuing and supporting street children, also known as (homeless children or street urchins) after having learned quite by accident about the immense size of the problem, most especially in developing nations, and in addition to the size, the tragic consequences that befall these children. The details of what happens to these children if un-rescued vary from sad to horrific. The majority will not see their 25th birthday, and for those who survive beyond that their lives will be spent toiling in miserable unskilled labor jobs, when they can find them, or they will be engulfed into lives of crime.

These children become hardened because their own communities and nations reject them, and prior to their hardening they go through a period of intense shock and deep depression, which drives them to substance abuse at an early age, typically around 10 or 12. The favorite drug of abuse for street children is glue or solvent that contains toluene, a chemical that has three unique qualities when inhaled: 1) reduction of feelings of hunger 2) reduction in feelings of abandonment and depression 3) brain damage.

With no adults to protect them they are totally vulnerable to adult predators of all types. The children are frequently robbed of their meager earnings and beggings, beaten, and sexually abused, or financially coerced into sexual transactions, typically for far less money than adult prostitutes charge. In impoverished environments the number of hostile, unprincipled adults will be significant, and this fact is often not accounted for when the children hit the streets, often because they are fleeing chronic abuse at home. Only a smallish fraction of street children are orphans. Street children leap out of the frying pan and into the fire.

These facts, and other sad and sordid facts of the lives of street children have motivated me to get involved. Soon after beginning to research this problem via the Internet, I came to learn that many street kid rescue charities exist in developing nations, but they do not have representation in the USA, or may have representation in only one or two developed nations. Many such charities are ad hoc operations, even Mom & Pop operations, and they devote most of their energy and time to the kids, and thus have little to spare for promotions. Some charities have religious affiliation yet still may not have much representation outside their community or nation. Street Kid Rescue hopes to bring more recognition to all these charities, and more donations as well.

Please take some time to review the information at the Street Kid Info link. I have gathered together a great deal of info about the problem and solutions of street kids. Most of the info is heartbreaking, some of it disturbing.

If you feel inclined to get involved or to donate, please do not hesitate to do so. Choose a charity that interests you, or contact me for more information and suggestions. - Robert Harvey
